The Civil War
Before and during the Civil War, the North and South had different opinions on economic issues. The war was about slavery, but mainly about its economic advantages and after-effects.
Effects And The Outcome:

- The growing tension led to war between the South/the Confederacy and the North/the Union
- After four years of fighting, the North finally won the war
Missouri Standpoint:
- Because of the Missouri Compromise of 1820, Missouri was allowed to be a slave state yet still be considered part of the North
- As a result, Missouri was divided between the Union and the Confederacy
- Although the state was officially part of the Union, many of the pro-slavery citizens supported the Confederacy, including the James family
